Aiden's lip curled and nostril flared as the powerful stench of chlorine wafted towards him. Curiosity got the bettr of him, and instead of heading to the kitchen for a bite to eat, which was where he had been headed up until now, he took a quick detour down a short corridor. A glass door with a brass handle led to a giant indoor swimming pool. The air was fresh and 'clean' smelling as he stepped inside, letting the door swoosh close behind him and close with an echoing 'click'.
Six white reclining chairs bordered the right length of the pool. To the left were three small tables with lawn chairs around them. He grinned- what fun they could have here!

[mind if i reply?] Katie had been in here a few minutes and had settled herself on arecling chair, well settled her things. She was sliding into the warm pool as someone walked in. She had her back to them so she didn't really know or care who it was. She wore a white fitting Bikini, her hair was pulled back into a side pony and her hair was in curls of beauty and was touching the waters surface as she stood in it. She turned around, tracing her arms across the waters top breaking it into ripples. She looked at the guy, he was one of the guys from the Rec Room. Aiden was it?

Aiden's eyes finally found their way to the actuall pool it's self. Blue tiles of every shade imaginable, right up to almost white, lined the innards of the pool; the pristine water looking all that more welcoming for the color. He sent the girl a little wave and cleared his throat, "Hi there, sorry to desturb you." he said. He shrugged in his shirt- it was sort of hot in here for some reason; probably made the water more comfortable. He kicked his sneakers towards the door and headed towards a reclining chair in his bare feet; each step setting a profound 'slap' against the cool tile flooring. The pool hadn't been used often, for the floor wasn't wet at all, and the entire hall seemed undesturbed save for the young girl in the water, "Having fun?" he asked with a sarcastic grin.

Layla peered through the door. She could just make out what Aiden and Katie were saying to each other. She stifled a giggle and sat down to watch. Layla had been ready to go for a nice swim, to get everything our of her. Nothing would be nicer than at Silver Stream though, where when you swam fish pecked at your toes.
Deciding to break up the 'happy family', Layla stood up and went inside. She pulled off the Kurt Cobain top she was wearing, revealing a blue and green striped bikini. Looking at Katie, she spoke:
+Beware; after a long time in the water, white things usually go see-through+
Giggling, Layla dived into the pool. Aqua-jogging on the spot, she looked to the two and pondered what to say next.

Aiden plopped down onto a chair, his head snapped up as he heard the door open and Layla appeared. He couldn't help but smile at her, and raise a surprised brow as she pulled off her shirt and found her way into the water. Had he known the pool was here; he might have brought his own swimming shorts- unfortunately, he hadn't- so he was resigned to sit and watch the two girls have their fun in the pool.
Anything to do with athletics usually interested Aiden; while he wasn't one for weight lifting, or deliberately working out; he appreciated the moderately buff physique sports had given him, and the numerous friends he'd made during his time on sports teams. As he watched the two fooling around in the water, he momentarily missed things like that; sports. He hadn't done anything in a year- somehow watching Layla jog, and knowing it was excersise, got him to remeniscing...
'Aiden! Pick up your gear!' his mother shreiked, picking her way over the mine-field of smelly hockey equiptment. Aiden dashed down the stairs, his little brother hot on his heels, and made a mad dash for his gear, tossing it helter-skelter into the corner where his bag lay open. Of course barely any of the gear actually made it into the bag, but it was better than strewn across the living room floor, right? His little brother, Kaleb, snatched up his helmet and proudly propped it on the top of the pile, 'Helped 'yah!' he proclaimed in a rather proud voice, tucking his hands behind his back and puffing out his chest. Aiden rolled his eyes and brushed a hand over Kaleb's matching mousey brown locks before moving into the kitchen for an evening snack...
He clenched his jaw and narrowed his eyes- memories of after-practice time with his long-gone family quickly fleeting. He supressed the emotions that filtered along with the memories, and forced a very believable smile. Aiden lifted his feet to the end of the recliner- wiggling his bare toes freely in the humid air. His hands found their way behind his head and he relaxed back onto the recliner, "Well you ladies have fun- I'm gonna work on my tan." he teased.

Layla grinned, rolling her eyes and looking at Aiden hopelessly. +No matter what you do, you'll never get as good a tan as Jake. Lie in the sun all you want, it won't help. All you'll end up getting is cancer+ Layla was instantly brought back to her past. You see, Layla's friend died from cancer. Very young. Around a year ago. The same time as Layla's whole life went twistedly, horridly wrong. Images shot through her mind as time after time replayed themselves in her mind. ++"Layla! Polly screamed. "I'm totally gonna have to change this top! Look, its going see-through already! Oh my god! Here comes Sam! Hide me!" Polly squealed, ducking behind her friend who had just drenched her with a water gun. Layla giggled, twisting around to face Sam and putting on a cheery face. "Lovely day! Quite the day for a waterfight." With a snort of laughter, Layla looked at her feet to stop herself laughing. "Yeah... hey, have you seen Polly?" Sam asked suddenly. Poor wet Polly, behind Layla, was silently screaming to Layla to make up an excuse. Of course Layla couldn't help but tell Sam. He had that look in his eye that Layla had seen in Kody quite a lot. You see, Layla and Kody were dating. And Polly fancied Sam, and Layla had a sneaking suspicion Sam might like Polly too. So she had to tell Sam, correct? "Um... behind me!" Layla giggled. Polly dropped her head in despair, grabbing Layla's overtop from her shoulders and struggling to put it on. "Hey Sam" Polly said slowly. She didn't want to be standing in front of Sam with a sopping wet see-through top and a red face! "Polly..." Sam struggled to find the words. "Do you wanna... go to the movies... with me... on Friday?" Polly squealed inwardly with delight. "Of course" She said happily. Layla watched with a smug smile on her face. As Sam walked away, Polly came and linked arms with Layla. "That was not nice, Layla Igleson!"++
Polly died 7 months later.
++"Layla!" Harry roared. "Get your blimmin' stuff out of my room!" Layla winced. Steadily she got up and headed for the door, walking into Harry's room. It WAS a sight. Layla hadn't meant to, but now that Polly and Sam were an item she needed to help a girlfriend out. It wasn't exaxtly her fault that her room was being painted at the same time Harry was out. And she HAD to find that top for Polly. Layla didn't know where it was. But it was the monthly dance tonight at school, and Polly's first time with Sam. And it WAS Polly's fave top. So what else to wear? "Sorry!" Layla told Harry, putting on her sorry face. "You'd better be" Growled Harry. "I don't want your designed top on my bed!" Layla was glad. She knew this meant that Harry wasn't angry any more, just a little irritated. So she hugged him, planting a kiss on his cheek. Harry, surprised by this, drew her away. "Just tidy it. Before I throw this jacket out the window!" Harry climbed to the window, opening it and dangling Layla's fave jacket out. "Don't you dare!" Layla shrieked, attempting to get the jacket from his grasp. Harry, shocked by the effort Layla was putting in, accidentally dropped it. On impulse, Layla grabbed his photo of Cindy, Harry's girlfriend, and dropped it out aswell. It smashed. "That was not nice, Layla Igleson!"++
Harry died a year later.
++"Layla!" Grandmother called. "Come get your ginger snaps!" Layla trailed into the kitchen, downcast and gloomy. Her grandmother, Ruby, sensing her unhappiness, pulled a stool out for Layla and herself. "Layla honey, tell me what's wrong." Grandmother asked softly. "Oh Grandmother! It's so hard now. Everything. Everything is a struggle. It's hard to wake up in the morning, now its a new day without them. No more Polly. No more Harry. Oh Grandmother, what can I do?" Layla cried, tears falling on her ginger snaps. "Layla, listen to me. It is hard, and the wounds never heal. But with time they fade a little bit, they don't hurt as much. Time, honey, time." Layla looked up at her Grandmother, despair in her blue eyes. "I feel as if I will never feel happy again. The hurt is too deep, Grandmother, and I fear I shall never get over it." Her Grandmother took Layla's face in her hands and titled it up, to look at her. "Nobody will ever replace them. But I'm sure that someone will come along who is just as special, in their own different way." Layla, comforted by her Grandmother's wise words, looked up on her own accord. "Do you know why I wear this gold ribbon around my wrist?" Layla asked, twisting the ribbon lightly. "No dear" Her Grandmother replied, sad and inquisitive at the same time. "It's for Harry. He used to tie gold ribbon around my Barbie dolls arms when I was little, to annoy me because he knew I hate gold." "Honey. That is so... wonderful. Harry will always be with you, and time heals all wounds. Soon you will love again, and losses will be outnumbered in gains" "Oh but Grandmother, your words are real, but you do not understand. Sometimes I feel myself wishing that everyone would die, then I would not feel so alone. Even you Grandmother, and even as I love you so, my heart will be broken all at once, instead of bits chipping off all the time." "Oh honey!" Grandmother exclaimed, hugging her grand-daughter. "That was nice, Layla Igleson"++
Grandmother died a week later. |
Layla shook her head to clear her thoughts. She didn't want to think of that right now, not in this pool. Not here. Not now. Not ever.

Katie watched but not staring or with much interest right then as he spoke. She gave a small white smile to him, rather cute infact as he smiled and she moved around to the side of the pool and rested her arms on the sides, her chest out of the water. Having fun? She heard him say and looked back towards him, Not on my ow.... She was cut off by a very familiar smiling face walking into the pool area, it was Layla, how could she forget? She had been so nice to her when everyone else seemed to ignore her for some reason. Apart from aiden and Jake. She covered her eyes as she dived to prevent any water smudggy her smokey eye liner and eyes. Yes, she was wearing make-up in the pool but it was only natural. Beware; after a long time in the water, white things usually go see-through. She looked over to Layla and laughed, Its alright. I'm prepared. She said, giving her a girly smile. Basically lettig Layla know what she meant, she had nothing to really show when it went see-through. Though to a lot of peoples amazement just because katie was shy didn't mean she forgot about how she appeared. Every month she went for a full wax, yeah a full wax which meant she had to shave no-where at all. And yes, she had a wax there too, painful but it was worth it. She gave small giggle and looked back towards aiden and slowly made her way through the pool towards Layla, Obviously wanting to chat.

Layla smiled mischevously. So Katie wanted her bikini to go see-through? Well, she was probably under control anyway. It wasn't like she would go swimming in a white bikini unequipped. Layla just hoped the poor girl had common sense. Did she have her sights set on Aiden? Katie could go ahead, the passage was free. Did Layla spoil possible flirting time? If she did, she didn't mean to. So did Katie fancy Aiden? Jake had met her too, he had told her about Katie's miraculous cookies. Hmm. Ooh, matchmaking in the mansion!
+So Katie. What's up? Apart from the ceiling, of course+
Layla smiled. That was her line. Whenever someone asked her what was up, she'd respong with what was literally up. Whether it be sky, ceiling, lights...

Aiden scoffed from his chair at Layla's cliche line, "Very clever." he teased from his vantage point- eyes still shut, a sarcastic grin on his face, arms neatly folded behind his head. Boy oh boy, Layla was a peice of work; but she was fun, and he really liked her. What a change to actually have a friend- and he'd barely known her for very long. It was an odd thing, but he sincerely appreciated her humor; heck, ontop of that she had an awesome cousing who was fun to hang out with. Maybe it was a family thing.

She caught by the look on her face what Layla was thinking and gave her a clear eye shot which told her to think otherwise. Katie wasn't interested in Aiden like that, or she didn't think she was, nope not yet, he would be a good mate. She laughed at Layla's line and grinned, Not much, boredom really. What 'bout you? Her thick english accent coming through as she spoke like it did all the time. Though only been here a few days she had started picking up odd accents on the end of words.

Layla grinned, diving again and surfacing. So Aiden was the only one here without an English accent... though Layla's wasn't as extreme as Katie's. But she used the posh accent, as opposed to the "asseptabel" which was supposed to be "acceptable". No, not that kind of English. The "Mommy" kind. You know, like Nelly Furtardo or Robbie Williams? Or Parkinson, that old English interviewer? Like them. You may not have known that, I guess I didn't mention she had an English accent. Or that her father was Spanish. So she's tanned, thankyou very much Mr 'elf-girl'. Nya ha.
Speaking to Aiden, she remarked:
+Do you have a line? Or a word? Anything? Or are you doomed to insanity with only literal sayings and words in the dictionary?+
Layla smiled. She liked Aiden. He was so mocking, so cheeky, so... Aiden. He was pretty much irresistable, someone you had to like. Otherwise you'd have to be one pretty borng person.
+Ditto. Except for like, being everywhere in this Mansion. Seen the gardens yet? By the way, if you ever go into the garden with that guy+
She jerked her head in Aiden's direction.
+Don't go to Violet Vale. Somehow I don't think he likes violets+
The last sentence was pronounced with such fake ditziness it was hard to tell whether she was Layla or Jessica Simpson. Layla dipped uderwater again.

Aiden sat up abruptly; sending Layla a cheeky, almost dirty look. Not quite dirty; say a tad of flour on one's nose is not quite dirty, 'tis more funny than anything else. But you could always call it dirty. His feet propped on either side of the leg-support of the chair. His elbows found their marks on the tops of his bent knees and his hands dangled infront of him aimlessly.
"I don't have a line-" he muttered with distaste, though he wasn't sure if he entirely understood what Layla was asking, he didn't want her to know he was that thick and he lifted his chin an inch out of pride, "And dictionary words do me just fine, thank you." he added.
He scratched the side of his head as she spoke and he shot her a rather dirty look; only this time 'twas quite dirty; roll in the mud type of dirty. "Actually, Katie, I rather like Violets- I just wasn't in the mood for their overexhuberant cheeryness the one, unfortunate, day Layla and I met there." He sent her a cheeky, sarcastic grin and dropped his hand back over his other. Ah, Layla was quite the wise-donkey, she was.

Layla put her hands on her hips, a mock shocked expression plastered on her face.
+Aiden Nash, are you saying that meeting me was rather unfortunate?+
Without waiting for a reply, she turned back to Katie, transforming back into casual, normal Layla. Smiling, she sent Katie a girl look that clearly insulted the male sex, one that only a girl could pick up. Stupidly oblivious guys.
+Katie, do you believe me, your girl comrade, or that buffoon over there who probably can't even count to twenty without taking off his shoes?+

Aiden laughed heartily; naw, meeting Layla was one of the better things that had managed to happen during his short stay here. He wouldn't call it unfortunate if that was the last describing word available. He shook his head cheekily and listened to her speak to Katie, "And Layla who doesn't need to take off her shoes- she has extra didgits hidden under that mane of hair." he stuck out his tongue and instantly regretted the moronic retort. Jeepers, why didn't he just keep his mouth shut?

Layla giggled, dropping her head in her hands despairingly. Shaking her head in fake dissapointment, she gave a cheery laugh and dived once more. Bouncing up out of the water, she climbed out and went to lie on a chair, on her stomach.
+Aiden, Gold Medalist in the Olymics for blond retorts+
Layla stated, in an announcer voice. Dropping her head onto her hands which rested at the top of the chair, she looked down at the plastic of the chair and thought.
