Skyla all but squealed as she finally made it to the top of the stairs, and into her bedroom- to be shared with Nila. Her suitcases were promptly shoved towards her bed and dresser on the right side of the room. If she'd been a tad less tired from her trek up the stairs with two over-loaded suitcases, she might have pirouetted in the center of the room and giggled with delight.
Instead, she flopped onto her bed and let out a content sigh, "I can work with this!" she told herself, peering around the room. Dusty wallpaper covered the walls, the furniture made of a deep cherry-wood and finely detailed. Definitely posh.
Sitting up, she clasped her hands together and grinned as her roomie entered their quarters, "By the way, I totally LOVE your hair, it's so cute." she smiled and proved an impish shrug then rolled on her bed to the end and un-zipped the first suitcase...

Nila dragged her duffel bag in and plopped it down on the bed on the left. A large window over the headboard gave way to a great view. She sat on the matress with one leg bent under her and the other dangling towards the floor as she pulled a choker necklace from a side pocket. The woven black hemp sported a single cowry shell. She clasped it around her neck while looking at Skyla with a slightly weirded out expression, "Thanks... I guess. Your hair's cool. too." Hair is hair. And people wonder why I don't like other people.

Skyla twirled a loose strand in her finger and rolled her eyes, "No it isn't. I haven't gotten it died in like two years now. Sort of old, but whatever; I have more important things to spend my money on." she laughed and dropped her hand into her lap. Tipping her head to the side she peered at Nila. She could try to quell her bubbly nature, or mask, whatever you'd like to call it- for Nila's sake, but it would be hard.
Pursing her lips she smiled as Nila adorned ner necklase, "That's pretty too." she nodded to it and finished opening her suitcase the entire way. Only one chest of drawers for her to stuff her entire wardrobe into- this was going to be fun. She tugged out one designer tee-shirt after another and folded them neatly beside her on the bed. Finally the stack was a good fifteen shirts high; depleting her pile of that clothing category. Next came pants- with seven pairs; all various shades of blue jeans, corderoys or more dressy slacks. Followed shortly by sweaters and sweatshirts which numbered only ten, and in all splendorous shades of the rainbow- each a unique mixture of color and material.
"Sorry..." she grimaced glancing at Nila, "I hadn't realized we'd be having room-mates so I sort of brought everything but the kitchen sink."

NIla bit her lip and began to unzip her bag, "Thanks. It was my brother's before.... Well, I'd rather not talk about it." The entire ocontents of the duffelbag spilled out onto the comforter to reveal a pile of jeans, sweatshirts, and band tees. She picked up a baclk Evanescence shirt and shrugged, "I suppose variety's always good unless you want to see blue, gray, and black all day." Se rummaged through the mountain of stuff and her hand closed around a heart-shaped locket. Inside was a picture of Nick, Josh, and Nila when Josh's older sister had taken them to the zoo, years ago. That's Janie for you. I don't need another necklace. 'Specially one with Nick's picture. She dropped it and inconspicuously kicked it under the bed.

Skyla nodded in understanding and shrugged- she knew all too well about not wanting to talk about things. Though, oddly enough, for one who had so many demons in their closet, Sky was a rather talkative person. Folding her clothing away into the drawers provided, she shoved the first empty suitcase under her bed, and got to work on the second.
From the corner of her eye, she caught a flash of silver as the necklace fell to the ground. First instinct was to tell Nila she'd dropped whatever it was- when she noticed her roomie kick it further under the bed. Pursing her lips, Sky elected to keep to her own buisness. It was quite obvious Nila wasn't going to warm up to her any time soon; best be at least civil if she couldn't make friends.
The second suitcase held the rest of Sky's accecories. First appeared a jewlery box; each compartment neatly held a good handful of earrings, necklace, bracelet or anklette. She gingerly set it ontop of her dresser, and dug through the suitcase again. Next materialized a down-filled pillow, followed closely by a second and third, which neatly lined the wall on Sky's bed. Propping a small pink rabbit-stuffie on the center pillow, she gave a content smile.
Then came the shoes. It wasn't like she was obsessed or anything, but Skyla had a thing for shoes. Sandals, heels, stilletos, clunky-skater-shoes, dressy flats. Every color, shape and type of shoe imaginable (well almost) seemed to be tucked away in some nook or cranny of her wheeled suitcase. She smiled as she lined them neatly just under her bed- easy acess; she'd also be able to see them when she was trying to choose a pair- way convenient. The second suitcase found it's way beside the first, tucked out of sight against the wall under the bed.
Standing up, Sky motioned to her shoes and smiled at Nila, "If you're the same size, you can always borrow a pair- I certainly can't wear them all all the time."

Nila looked at all the shoes, a bit dazed. That was a lot of shoes. She walked over and knelt down to pick one up, musing, "I'm guessing you like shoes. I have pretty big feet, but they may fit... somehow." Skyla will be my roomate for awhile, I can always try to be her friend. She closed her duffel bag and pushed it under the bed, hearing a smal clinking sound as it brushed against the locket. She fought back a wince and fell back on the mattress, tucking her hands behind her head, "Sorry if I seem a bit... er... distant. It's just in my nature. 'Kay?"

Skyla smiled and nodded, "I'm sure your feet will fit." she laughed and seated herself gingerly on the edge of her matress. As Nila stuffded her duffel under the bed, Sky ignored the clink and listened quietly to the other girl's words. Distant was a good way to describe her. That might have been Skyla herself, in another world. She'd just chosen another path to get away from her troubles; a mask. She shrugged and sent Nila a gentle, understanding smile, "That's okay, just tell me if I'm too outgoing sometimes." she laughed lightly, and grabbed her pillow, dropping it across her lap and hugging tightly.
