Layla knocked lightly on the door. A sign said "Girls and Boys do not mix". Chuckling slightly, Layla pushed open the door as no answer was heard from inside. She dropped her possessions on the floor and looked around. It was empty, and didn't look very cozy. Well, a good dose of Layla can fix that, she thought. So she dug in her bag. Pulling out a soft pink heart cushion, she lay it on one of the beds, as well as a quilt made up different materials. Pulling a braided rug from her bag aswell, she lay it on the floor, and placed her lava lamp, pink heart lamp, and small radio on the side table. Lastly, she pulled a worn old toy rabbit from her bag and placed it on the cushion.
+Perfect!+
Layla exclaimed.

Eloisa had just scrambled the last meters over to her bedroom door. She was completely knackered, and just wanted to find a bed and sleep in it. As that was the only thought swimming through her head, she didn’t think about knocking before bursting into the room. Looking horrible as ever with her short, blonde hair standing in all possible directions, and her clothes signaling she had just thrown on the first piece of clothing she could find, she pulled her two gigantic bags to their final resting place for the day – next to an empty bed.
Now that she noticed the other girl in the room, she collected the last bit of energy she felt remained in her body and reached out her hand with a tired smile for the girl to shake if she felt like it. “Hi, I’m Eloisa... Obviously your roommate unless I’ve stumbled into the wrong room...” Yeah... Eloisa tended to keep talking and talking and talking when she was tired, and it didn’t seem like now would be any different.

Layla looked up suddenly as the new person stumbled into the room. Well, her first roomate. Layla liked the girl from the moment she saw her. The newcomer didn't seem to mind what she looked like, or what was happening. She seemed laid-back and breezy. Layla grinned and shook the girl's hand. Eloisa... Strange name, but then again Layla wasn't exactly normal either. The girl seemed... different to people she'd met. Talkative, like her.
+Well, hello! I think you must be, beacuse I was supposed to have a roomate and I dont know who it is. You, probably. I'm Layla. Do you want a hand? You look really tired. Dont be afraid to pop off to sleep right now, because I'm exhausted too. I just hope you don't snore; but I have a habit of talking in my sleep. Not loudly, unless I have a awful dream. Then I manage to shout 'NO!' really loudly. But don't worry, unless something totally freaks me out I won't do it. Okay, I think I'm burbling on a bit too much. Sorry if I bother you. I don't mean to, I just love new people and finding out about them. I hope you're allowed pets here. Flea isn't bad, but she's a bit annoying sometimes. Lucky she's a house cat, or she'd be outside right now. Do you have any pets? Flea's a kitten, and quite annoying at that. I hope you're not allergic to cats. Wouldn't that be positively dreadful? Oooh, I hope not. I love cats, do you? Oh no, I'm doing it again. I'm afraid you won't gat a word in edgewise for quite a while if I continue on like this. Look, there's Flea now+
Layla stopped, pointing to under her bed and stooping to reveal a black kitten with big amber eyes. Flea wound her way around her owner's legs, purring contentedly, then jumped up on the bed and curled up there.

Eloisa stared at Layla. Wow… That was a lot of words coming out at once. Amidst the constant stream of talk, Eloisa managed to catch something about a cat, snoring and the word ‘NO!’. This knocked her senses a little bit out of place, and for a while she just stood there gaping. Gathering herself, Eloisa smiled and nodded, pretending she had heard everything, and said in a calm and comforting voice “Yeah, I love cats.” She spotted the black cat and smiled even broader. “Aw, he’s so cute!” She surveyed the cat as it jumped up on the bed and a question popped into her mind. “Or is it a girl?” She sat down on her own bed and laid her head over to the side, her face turning into one of confusion. She was starting to wake up a little, as could be seen by her glinting, blue eyes.

Layla grimaced. She seemed to have got off on a bad start already; Eloisa looked dazed by her speech. She smiled, slightly apologetically.
+Sorry if we got off on a bad start because of my mouth. Oh sorry! Flea's a girl. She can be alright. But she can be totally annoying. I hope you discover her good side first, or I fear you'll hate her+
Flea jumped from her nook, instead heading for the new girls bed in the hope of some attention. She jumped up, batting at Eloisa's hand with a paw and lying down next to her face, pressing against her nose.
(OOC: Flea is based on my RL kitty. She does exactly that)

Eloisa smiled at the girl. “Nah, don’t worry. Takes more than a couple of words to give me a wrong impression.” She giggled as the kitten came up to her face and cuddled up with her, and automatically started stroking its back. “You can’t seriously mean that this little furry dot can have a bad side?” Eloisa looked at the cat with warm eyes, as if she was in love with it. She could have fallen asleep like this. Tearing her eyes away from the cat, but continuing to stroke it with her hand, she looked up at Layla, surveying her for the first time without showing a single sign of what she thought about her. She then glanced behind her at the other bed. There was a pink heart pillow and a toy rabbit lying there, and a couple of lamps on the table next to the bed. “Oh my god! I love lava lamps!” Eloisa grinned widely. She really did. When she was a little girl, she used to pretend the floating things inside it was real lava, and she used to watch it to fall asleep.

Layla grinned as Flea jumped to curl up with Eloisa. She laughed at Eloisa's next words, and replied with a happy tone.
+Oh, me too! They're to ninties retro, I adore them. I still have to unpack my bags. Eeek. This won't be a task for the faint hearted+
Layla smiled, grabbing the three bags that lay beside her bed. One was almost empty, containing a clock, length of gold ribbon, and a blood red ornament that she couldn't live without. Placing the ornament lightly on her bedside table, she tied the gold ribbon around her wrist. Grabbing the lava lamp, she offered it to Eloisa.
+Here, you can have it for our stay here. I've already got a lamp+
Layla gestured to the pink heart lamp that lay not far away. Next to it was the ornament. It was a china lady, with skirts ruffling. She had one hand raised up in a wave, and the fingers were chipped off. It was Layla's most treasured possesion. It was given to her from her grandmother, before she died. It was a family heirloom, and Layla's grandmother was her most important person in life. Before she had passed away... Layla shivered.
She picked up the remaining two bags and opened the first. Pulling out tons of shirts and skirts and tops and pants and jeans and shorts and singlets and underwear and socks she placed them neatly in her wardrobe. Then she picked up the other bag.
In it were more clothes. Shirts and skirts and tops and pants and jeans and shorts and singlets and underwear and socks. She placed them neatly in her wardrobe too, pulling out her hair accessories, make up, and lastly, a photograph in a golden frame. It showed two adults, with their arms around two children. One of them was Layla. The other was Harry.
The ribbon tied around Layla's arm was a big deal to her. It signified her brother, Harry, who was the second most important person in the world for her. Well, was...
Harry had died in a car crash a year ago. He always used to tie a gold ribbon around Layla's Barbie's arms when she was little. Now this was her tribute to him. She had to take it off when she came here. The pesky people on the train could have tried to steal it. And no one would know what it meant, unless they got close enough to Layla for her to tell. Only one person had, and she was dead.

Eloisa grinned from ear to ear when Layla gave her the lava lamp. OK, so it would have been standing in the room anyway, but still... “Oh, thank you! You serious?” Giggling she accepted the lava lamp and put it down on her side table. Seeing that Layla began to unpack her things, Eloisa figured she might as well do the same. She lifted up Flea and put her down further away from herself on the bed.
She picked up one of her bags, and since both of them were heavy and Eloisa was still exhausted from the trip up the stairs, it showed that it was heavy. Placing the bag next to her on the bed she unzipped it and looked inside. Topping everything else inside the bag was her very own holy bible: The Lord Of The Rings. She took it out of the bag and put it down in the foot-end of her bed. A couple of shoes came out next – two pairs of trainers and one pair of fancy high heels which she had no idea how had gotten into her bag in the first place. Glancing up at Layla as she took out a picture from her bag, Eloisa smiled. “That your family?” Turning her attention back to her bag she pulled out two pictures of her own: One of her whole family framed in dark silver. Herself and her brother were smiling sweetly (and falsely) at the camera, and their parents were standing behind them looking disgustingly flirtily at eachother. If Eloisa remember correctly, she jumped on Antony and sprung his ancle just before the picture was taken. He managed to hide it pretty well, though. The other picture was of herself and some friends in mid-air. It was taken when they had all jumped off a roof simultaneously. Of course it was tons of snow underneath them when they jumped, so the landing was pretty comfortable. The picture’s frame was in golden wood. She carefully placed the picture down on her side-table, behind the lava lamp.

Layla smiled, hiding her apprehensiveness. She didn't exactly want to talk about Harry. His death was still fresh in her mind, and caused Layla grief. But Layla knew enough to not ignore the question completely. So she settled for the shortest, easiest answer.
+Yea+
Replied Layla, casting fond looks at the photo before placing it beside the china lady. Wherever those two were was home for Layla.

Eloisa looked up at Layla, noticing she had stepped into a subject she shouldn’t have gotten into. Grabbing a CD-holder from her bag, she spotted the book she had put down on her bed. “So...” She started, hoping she could start up a conversation. She was kind of desperate, because she hated to make people feel bad because of something she had said. “You read the Lord of the Rings?” She asked. It probably sounded kind of stupid, but desperate needs call for desperate ... something. She looked over at Layla, hoping to see a happier face.

Layla grinned. Of course she read Lord of the Rings. She was a major fan; she owned all the movies, books, and even had the little figurines, board games, maps, toys... you name it.
+Of course! I LOVE Lord of the Rings!+
Layla exclaimed, smiling and forgetting about her apprehensiveness. She loved Harry and her grandmother, and always had a spot in her heart and mind when she mourned eternally, but there was a time and place for everything, including joy.

Happy she had successfully changed the subject, she smiled while taking out more of her stuff in the bag. “I didn’t read the books until after I had seen the movies. It wasn’t quite the same to see the movies afterwards, though, because there were so many things missing...” Holding a black and white belt in her hand, she looked out in thin air with a thoughtful expression on her face. “Still think the movies are the best ever made, though.” She pulled out another book – The Da Vinci Code, and put it next to LotR, and put the bag down on the floor again. She could wait with the rest of her things until later. Leaning towards the wall, she looked at the kitten which were approaching her again, purring and hoping to be cuddled with. Lifting her up into her lap, she looked up at Layla as if wondering if it was OK for her to do so.

Layla nodded. She had preferred the second book, the Two Towers. That had been her favourite. Ooh, how she loved Smeagol! Layla had always had a fascination with odd things, like llamas or Spongebob Squarepants. So people who were schitzophrenic were interesting to her. Having seen the movie A Beautiful Mind, she found it fascinating. So the powers of the brain could make you imagine things that are not there? (OOC: I live in NZ, where the director of Lord of the Rings is from. We actually live in the same suburb he did. My auntie went to school with him. Groovy bananas. He built this custom house for himself, like a mansion, with secret passageways and stuff. And King Kong was filmed in my city. I've been to the sets of Lord of the Rings. BTW: )

Closing her eyes for a bit while gently letting her hand stroke the kitten in her lap, she started humming a song called Into The West. The song had been stuck on her mind for a while, and she was fearing she would be humming the melody for her entire stay. Her brother would have killed her by now. Remembering how close he had been to jumping out of the car in top speed while driving Eloisa to the air port, she had to smile. The song was nice and all, but any song can make somebody crack when it’s being hummed 24/7.
“Hope fades... Into the world of night...” She whispered, singing absentmindedly. Suddenly realising she was actually singing out loud, she sat up right and immediately reached for her other bag. She had almost nodded off back there, and she was not intending to do so. Unzipping the bag, she pulled out a bundle of clothes. She carefully pushed the kitten off her lap again and walked over to the only closet in the room. “Seems we’ll have to share.” She said, stuffing her clothes inside, not bothering to sort or fold them. She was kind of doubting one closet would be enough for two girls.

Layla pulled a face. Honestly, they couldn't even dish out enough cash for two closets. No, they intended on two girls sharing one. This Silver person had NO idea about girls. Useless.
+That's not good. Why, the receptionist should understand. Couldn't she tell the Silver person?+
Turning around at Eloisa's light singing, Layla shuddered. How she HATED that song! Oh, it really frustrated her. Harry had sung it all the time. It was enough to drive her completely crazy.
