Ana stepped into the Common Room, breathing a sigh of relief when she noticed the TV in one corner. Definitely something to do when they were "locked in" and bored. She walked over to the TV and turned it on, flipping channels absentmindedly until she noticed it.
Embedded a few inches into the wall hung a small, black speaker. It was lined with wood and its edges were plastered into the wallpaper itself, so the speaker looked like a tiny black spot. She scanned the rest of the wall and noticed a matching tiny camera too.
"So this is what they mean by being observed," she muttered, looking around to see if anyone else was coming in. She had to tell everyone that whatever they did in the Common Room was no longer private.

Eloisa had just been hanging out with Skyla for a while, and was now going up to the common room in the hope that she might meet someone new. Spotting someone the minute she entered the room, she smiled warmly.
“Hi!” Her voice rang through the room. Looking around, she saw a TV. Oh, thank you! She wasn’t a major fan of watching TV, but she couldn’t imagine a life without it either. Not knowing what she should do first, she ended up standing in the middle of the room and just looking around. A TV, a stereo... This stay would probably be the best ever! A pool and poll-table in the basement, TV and stereo in the common room, ooh, and not to forget the lava lamp in her bedroom.

((Skyla))
Though she felt like a sheep leading the flock; something she hated to do; she followed Eloisa into the Common Room- simply because she had nothing else to do. She spotted another girl inside and quickly brightened; a new face could very well mean a new friend, "Hello!" she chirped gleefully, her brunette hair bouncing on her back, and hazel eyes sparkling with good nature.
((Aiden))
Aiden trudged out of his room, and was about to head downstairs to 'explore' as he'd told Clark seconds before when he heard a few voices down the hall. Turning that way, he zoned in on their possition in the Common Room. Leaning against the door-jamb, he glanced over the three girls mulling around inside. What, were there only a couple of guys, and a tonne of girls? Some case study this was going to be. He rolled his eyes and was about to turn and leave when he noticed the first girl studying something on the wall...

Jake strolled in, calm and laid-back. He squared his shoulders and acted just as he would when presenting his debate in class. Strong and carefree. A mob of girls hung around it, and Jake was glad when he saw Aiden. Finally. Some guy company.
But then he saw what Aiden was looking at. A camera? How lame was that? They obviously wanted them to know they were being watched. Maybe it was to test their strength of character? Then he saw the speaker. Were they going to be given an assignment? That was what Jake hoped. He had always liked a challenge.

She didn't want to come in here, infact she had been telling herself not to walk through the doors into the slowly filling common room. She quietly slipped in, makig no big show of her walking in. She took a breif look around, and sat down on one of the chairs along the back wall and crossed both her arms and legs, a defensive posture. She looked down. There was so many people here yet she was so lonely.

Layla entered the room, smiling like a Cheshire Cat. Finally, something to do! Her time here had mainly consisted of picnics, unpacking and trying to make friends. Not noticing Katie in the corner, she moved to the bunch of girls. One of the brunette ones was positively bouncing up and down with exitement. Layla liked the look of her. She might be a little superficial, but she was happy nonetheless. She didn't like sad people. But then again she was kind of sad, Layla herself. She wondered if this girl had ever experienced a heartfelt tragedy. Probably not, she concluded.
+Hello! I'm Layla+

"Oh Layla! What a pretty name." she grinned and tipped her head gently, "We're trying to figure out what that-" her finger and arm formed a line pointed at the box on the wall, "-is for." She glanced at Layla and shrugged. Catching the other girl's eye, a momentary frown appeared on her face before she wiped it free. There was something rather sad in the blond girl's eyes- something unmistakable. Though she couldn't put her finger on it, for some odd reason, Sky felt like the girl had momentarily judged her. She shrugged inwardly- she was used to being judged. Heck! She'd rather be judged a snob than have anyone know about her real life. The smile returned, plastered on her face; perfectly round glossed lips framing two rows of straight, white teeth. Dimples bracketed her lips, and her cherry-round cheeks mounded beneath her twinkling eyes, "Is everyone here?" she added; glancing around the room- quite a few had shown up, and she was sure the room would burst if more were to come.
((Aiden))
"Like I told Jake-" he sent his male comerade a smirk, "It's probably something to keep an eye on us- I've already been keeping my eye out for cameras in the bathrooms." his eyes lit up devilishly and he glanced from girl to girl. For some reason he delighted in the thought of making them squirm- he'd always been one to enjoy a good laugh- chat of recording devices in such places was sure to make one or two of the females let out an exhasperated giggle. Anything but an enemy- perhaps if Aiden could be the comic relief, his time here, spent surrounded by other people, wouldn't be so difficult. Being funny was easier than being Aiden.

Layla smiled back, and momentarily noticed that the girl was very pretty. She studied the random box, eventually shrugging and looking back at the girl who had said her name was pretty. Layla was glad. She had always liked her name, and she liked people who were generous with compliements, easy-going and free. Yes, Layla decided, she liked this girl.
+Hmm, I dunno. Well, we'll probably find out soon enough, right? Whats your name?+
Layla asked her, rolling her eyes mockingly at Aiden's topic before turning back to the girl. His comments certaintly weren't breaking up a conversation for, especially as they were just relatively stupid today. But maybe thats how he was when he was showing off. Cracking joke after incredibly lame joke. But the question was, who was he showing off to? Not Jake, she'd seen them together; not her, he was't as lame and delighted in trying to make Layla uncomfortable; so the question was, who? The camera?

Jake smirked back at Aiden. He liked watching people squirm, as long as it wasn't Layla. No, if someone ever managed to embarras Layla -which was extremely hard- then he'd get them and do everything he could to make them go bright red with humiliation. You see, Jake had a soft spot for family. It was his one soft spot, and especially Layla. Maybe because her brother had died less than a year ago, Jake's cousin. And her grandmother not long ago at all. Not his grandmother. But Jake needed to protect Layla, in case anyone hurt her more than she had been hurt already. If someone did, he'd roll up his sleeves and be ready to get 'em.
||I think I saw one in there once. Right above the cubicle||
Jake added, joining in with Aiden. Sure, it was pathetic; but who was gonna stop 'em?

Ana listened for a while, trying to catch everyone's name before she embarrassed herself by not knowing. She was about to laugh along when an audible crackle came in over the speaker. Then someone cleared his throat; it was definitely a man's voice, and everyone noticed.
The room went silent.
After a few seconds the man started to speak. "Welcome to my mansion." A pause. "...kids." The voice sounded middle-aged, cultivated, with a hint of a British accent and something else... a very high level of pride? It was hard to tell from just the crackly speakers.
"Now, may I have all your names? It is necessary to know which of you have come to the Common Room today."
Ana looked around, and then said very softly, "Ana Rosalie." She didn't know where the mic was, or how a voice that soft was heard, but the voice seemed to hear it. He waited expectantly for more names.

Eloisa smiled cheekily at Aiden’s comment, but not in a position where he was likely to see it. Being the person she was, she couldn’t let the comment go in one ear and out the other, so she started to actually think about it. Not because she believed it were any cameras in the bathrooms, but because the thought called for attention. Furrowing her eyebrows after a couple of seconds’ thought, she shook her head trying to get the pictures out of her head. Her head shot towards the speaker on the wall as a new voice was heard in the room. She hardly dared to breathe. The voice requested the names of everyone in the room, and Eloisa didn’t feel like going first. Hearing an other girl introducing herself, she heaved a sigh in relief. Ana Rosalie... “Eloisa Costa” Eloisa said, leaving out her middle name as she wasn’t that fond of it. She walked over to an armchair and sat down in it, as it seemed like she might be staying for a while.

Aiden started to laugh at Jake's comment when the voice abrupted- and silence fell. His neck swiveled to face the speaker and he raised his brows. This guy didn't even know their names? And here he thought this was a well run operation. Furrowing his brow, he flicked two fingers in the air and spoke, "Aiden Nash." Dropping his hand sheepishly- he remembered he was talking to a mic, not a video camera. But then again- what was to say there was no camera?
((Skyla))
Grinning, Sky was about to reply to Layla's question when the speaker crackled to life. Three names listed off, then hers; "Skyla Berton." she said-her voice more directed towards the speaker; though she was sure the mic wouldn't be directly near it; it was a natural reaction to speak where the voice was coming from. Her eyes remained on Layla- two questions answered at once! She clasped her hands infront of her and turned her attention to the room- everyone's eyes were trained on the speaker. She turned her own hazel gaze towards it and excitedly waited.

Jake smiled, following the list of people who began stating their names. Ana Rosalie, Eloisa Costa, Aiden Nash, Skyla Burton. Jake didn't like that Skyla character. She was bound to become even closer friends to Layla than Katie probably would. And then it would be HARDER to get Layla on her own, as her and her giggling airhead of a friend stuck together like superglue. Oh, the follies of females. Guys didn't go everywhere together. It wasn't like GUYS linked arms and giggled and strolled around in huge clumps, so it was nearly impossible to get one on their own. Yes, Jake had been having some serious girl problems lately. Holly had just left, and that was months ago. And it was so darn HARD to get someone on their own to ask them. You see, Jake's prom had come and gone, and he had gone with Holly right? But he was in his first year at university, and another one comes along. It was right after the holidays, and JAKE HAD NO ONE TO GO WITH. Talk about embarrasing. He was thinking of asking Layla if he got positively no one, but he wanted a real date. Hello, was he gonna go kiss his cousin?
||Jake Hasselhoff||
Jake said silkily to the speaker, daring anyone to giggle or even ask him about his last name. Yes, his uncle is David Hasselhoff. Your point?

Layla nodded, silky blonde hair falling partway over her face. Skyla Burton. Okay, lovely name. Skyla... but Skyla didn't seem that dreamy, as Layla thought someone with 'sky' in her first name should be. No, giggly and fun. How fun it would be if they became friends! Layla sneaked a peek at Jake. He was thinking. Layla could always tell with her older cousin, just as she usually could with people. She WAS a good reader of them, nestling along with her other talents. Let me tell you one of her weaknesses, after so many talents have been told: Death. Layla absolutely con't stand it. Why, if someone she DIDN'T KNOW died it would bring tears to her eyes. If she hit an animal as she was driving alonmg she would stop and weep. So never make light of death, my friends, or you will make Layla cry and hurt very much, and probably never see her again. With her being kind, that is.
+Layla Igleson+
Layla told the speaker. Why, if they had a camera why didn't they know who they were? And Layla thought this program was organised.

There was a pause once again. "Our surveillance cameras have detected a few more students still not in this room," the voice said dryly. "And no, I am not the owner of the Silver Mansion, in case that thought crossed your mind."
Ana made a mental note not to do anything embarrassing in the hallways, even if she was alone. Surveillance cameras. That meant hidden surveillance cameras. It was almost scary, but she remembered that her parents and the government were in on this. Besides, too many people knew about the project--if they decided to assassinate all the kids at once, this Silver person would sure get a whole lot of complaints.
"Since I have asked for your names, I now confirm that there are no cameras in the Common Room. The same goes for the Bathrooms and Rec Room, though microphones are still intact in these areas. There are cameras in your Bedrooms, but they are turned off at 7:00pm for your privacy."
Ana looked around and then brought out a small notepad, scribbling a few words on it and then passing it on. She scarcely knew Layla, but she was the nearest--and so she gave the sheet of paper to her. We should all carry emergency pen and paper, just in case there's something we don't want them to hear. Right?
OOC: By people not in this room, I mean the characters that were created at the Enrollment Board but for some reason have not posted yet... anyway, I'll wait for more posts before putting up the assignment.
