He grinned wickedly, "You don't have any teenage brothers do you?" he winked and relaxed into the grass. One hand propped him up from behind- the other helped him to a second biscuit. Glancing around he drew a breath through the crumbs and tossed his head absently to rid his bangs from his forehead.
"So-" he swallowed the last bite of his second serving, "What've you been up to around the Mansion since you got here?" he questioned. Reaching for a small sandwich, he gingerly lifted it. Such a tiny, cleanly cut thing could only have been made by a girl. It was almost fragile enough for him to not want to take a bite. Not quite though- and he devoured it in one bite.

Layla shook her head. She watched his expression as he ate another biscuit. Nothing out of the ordinary there. She breathed a sigh of relief and shook her hair from her eyes. Straighening the blanket they were siting on, she laughed slightly as he showed his evident lack of etiquette. Thats men for you, Layla thought.
+No. But I have a cousin here. Jake. Why? +
She in turn reached for a sandwich. Half ham and half cucumber. Yum, her favourite. Layla nibbled at it, showing how you were supposed to eat sandwiches. Not stuffing them in your mouth and chewing hurriedly, as if the whole meal was going to dissapear.
+Nothing much. I haven't even been anywhere except here, the Lobby and my Bedroom. You?+

Aiden swallowed sheepishly as he watched her eat; like a rabbit. Like every other woman he'd met. Always he'd been quizzical about that- why was there such a need to be so dainty? He sure wouldn't care less if she snatched up five sandwiches at a time and made short work of them. If women were trying to impress men with their habits, he was sure it was lost on them.
He pushed the thoughts away and laughed, "Well- if you lived with boys for very long, you quickly learn to descover we're vartiable bottomless pits." he winked and snatched another sandwich- one to match hers. Nibbling mockingly at the corner he sent her a devilish grin before bringing it away from his mouth and continuing, "Naw- I've scoped this place from top to bottom. It's actually quite large. I was afraid that appearances might have been decieving, and the innards would be alot smaller than I first had assumed." he shrugged and continued to eat his sandwich in as dainty a mannor as he could muster.

Layla made a face as him and stuffed her sandwich into her mouth. However, she still chewed with her mouth closed. No need to go completely barbaric. Like an ape. Uh. Layla shuddered inwardly. Disgusting.
+Well thats great. Manage to know your way around yet?+
Layla asked, folding her arms and lying down in the grass on her stomach. She peeked up at the blue sky and smiled as she saw a bird flitting from tree to tree.

"More or less." he grinned and mirrored her ingesting action by plummeting the sandwich into his gullet, "It seems like a really cool place- Once you get past the stuffy furniture, and the 'antiques' some girls seem to fawn over inscesently." he winked and reached for a danish.
The bird caught his eye and he watched it for a moment, carefully taking bite after bite of the delectible dessert until it all dissapeared from his hand. Rubbing his belly in mock-content, he grinned at Layla, "You going to lay out here all day?" he questioned.

Layla shook her head in fake frustration, smiling again and rolling her eyes. I hope he doesn't always eat like that, she thought. Barbaric! Ugh. I don't think I could stand someone who just scoffed all the food down as if it didn't taste like anything. Uh, no, that would be too much.
She ignored his first comment, which came with the Aiden-ish wink she had noticed in the short time they'd met. As well as the cheeky grin and the everylasting amount of stomach space. Antiques... ah, they were lovely, as long as you say them in a good mood. Layla remembered when she had been in a bad mood and seen her mother's prize vase... not pretty.
+Of course not. Lover of nature I may be, but that would just be boring. Now, don't you start thinking I'm some tree-hugging anti-social hermit+

Aiden swallowed and tucked his hands into his lap. Okay, so his habits were not exactly lady-like... did she really expect that? He could tell by the pained expression, however, that his manners- or lackthereof- were bothering her. So he'd finish satisfying the growing hole in his stomach later.
As she spoke his eyes laughed and he gave the tiniest shake of his head, "Naw, I figured you were more like the picnic eating, bird appreciating, big-on-manners type of girl. The words, 'tree-hugging' and 'hermit' never crossed my mind."

Layla breathed a sigh of relief as he stopped wolfing food down. She always liked someone who liked her food, but it seemed like he just ate it mechanically, like a robot, notcaring what it tasted like. Ah well. That was guys for ya.
Layla narrowed her eyes at Aiden, with a wry smile.
+You missed out anti-social. And anyway, I'm NOT big on manners. I just don't exactly hold with people scoffing food like there's no tomorrow. You should see me compared to my mother. I look like a cave-man+

Aiden sent her a mock-horrified look; if her mother was worse, he was glad she wasn't here. His own mother had been a big finatic of manners, at least table-manners. His father had never much cared; probably where Aiden had picked up his less-than-satisfactory ways. He swallowed and pushed thoughts of his past from his mind and smiled at Layla, "I didn't miss anything." he teased momentarily before adding, "So where are you off to after tea is finished?" he grinned.

Layla shook her head, shrugging. She touched the gold ribbon wound around her arm, eyes going soft for a moment before they turned to Aiden.
+I have not idea. I'll find out when it happens, won't I? And 'tea'. You sound like a right gentleman, you do+
Layla laughed.

He glanced at the ribbon as she stroked it, and watched the expression pass her features. His jaw clenched; he knew that look. Slowly his mouth grew dry and he swallowed. Meekly he gave her a crooked smile, "I figured it would win me points." he said quickly. Standing up, he brushed the bottom of his pants off and glanced franticly around for an escape route. Emotions were boiling up- things other people didn't need to see. Least of all Layla. The muscle in his jaw twitched with the force of his clenched teeth. Grimacing he glanced back down at her; no iminent escape spotted. "Need help packing up?" he questioned.

Layla shook her head. It was like Aiden was desperate to get away, so she'd let him. He seemed to be tense, searching for any excuse to get away. Layla was hurt. After he'd eaten at least half the food, and they'd barely met, he wanted to leave! Was she that bad? Was she a useless cook? Was...
+No. You can leave+
She couldn't stop a dull note from being an undertone. Was she so awful?

He swallowed hard and grimaced. The dissapointment was obvious. Shivers ran up and down his spine as the farmiliar feeling swept through him. Guilt, anger, sadness, remorse- all at once washed over him like a tarrential hurricane. Shovig his hands into his pockets, he willed his expression blank. He'd been hiding these emotions for years and had become quite expert at it. The only ones who'd so far been sucessful at seeing past them were his family members. That's one of the biggest reasons he'd come here; to escape them. And, of course, the memories.
But as he stood, looking down at Layla and her golden ribbon- though he significance of such a thing escaped him, he saw that whistful, remembering look that had glazed her features when she touched it- and he knew it meant something... Those memories returned and he realized with utter horror that he'd never be able to run from them. Hide from them.
Swallowing again, though the action seemed futile considering his tongue was plastered to the roof of his dry mouth, he looked at her through emotionless eyes, "I'll help." he said. It wasn't fair to her for him to run away. She hadn't done anything but remind him of the past. That definitely wasn't worth punishing her over. Not to mention he knew he owed her something for sharing her lunch.
Ontop of that, Aiden wasn't the kind of guy who just left a girl sitting among bright flowers with a meal he'd half-consumed all alone. Perhaps it was the fear of guilt... he didn't know. Suddenly, the urge seized him to ask about the ribbon. But he didn't, and silently he picked up a few sandwiches and replaced them in the dish they'd come from, his gaze wandering coldly from the ribbon to Layla's face, then back to the picnic.

Layla nodded again, her eyes still downcast. Aiden was helping out of courtesy, not because he enjoyed her company. What was wrong with her? Layla couldn't tell. Was she too neat? Was she too girly? Was she too... tree-hugging anti-social hermit? What was it? Was it something else? Was it something she had said? Was it something she had done?
Layla always got like that when faced with a problem. You see, she liked people. She didn't like people not liking her. So she got slightly paranoid when someone seemed they didn't. But all this stayed in her head. On the outside she was calm and confident as ever. But on the inside she was wondering what was wrong with her.

Aiden winced, "Look I-" he squared his shoulders and drew a sharp breath, "You just reminded me of something that I don't often like to recall. Sorry if I upset you, I don't mean anything by it. Want to... get out of here? The gardens I mean- obviously not the mansion." he rubbed a hand on the back of his neck nervously. Dang it, Aiden, from worst to bad. Why didn't he just keep his mouth shut?
He always seemed to hurt people. It wasn't fair, not to them and not to him.
[ooc-sorry for such a cruddy post >_<]
